Press Release Regarding Training for Employment

With overwhelmingly bipartisan support, the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) was approved by Congress and is now on its way to the White House. The House of Representatives passed the WIOA yesterday by a vote of 415 to 6; the Senate approved it on June 25 by a vote of 95 to 3.Over ten years have passed since the Workforce Investment Act was last updated. The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, the new name for this piece of legislation, offers more flexibility, strengthens the links between literacy and employment, and places a focus on both out-of-school adolescents and those with disabilities. Long-term unemployment, upskilling employees with credentials that lead to better jobs, and other essential concerns will all be addressed by the workforce system as long as WIOA is in place.
