According to the SHRM research, managing talent requires HR departments to “attract, recruit, retain, identify, and develop high-potential employees.” This represents a shift in the focus of talent management. Laura Lea Clinton, GPHR, director of human resources management for CARE USA and a member of SHRM’s Employee Relations Special Expertise Panel, explained in the study that talent management has evolved from a process of rehabbing poor performers to focusing on retention, specifically in regard to high-performing individuals.
